Modernised IISCO steel plant of SAIL today dispatched its first export consignment of 2,764 tonne of steel blooms to Nepal.

The consignment of steel bloom was exported to Nepal for their urgent rehabilitation work after the massive earthquake.

The blooms will be used for rolling out quake resistant TMT bars, SAIL said in a release.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi had dedicated the modernised and expanded IISCO Steel Plant to the nation in May.

The plant has not only tripled its hot metal capacity from 0.85 to 2.9 million tonnes per annum (MTPA) but also ushered in a new era of green and high quality steel making.

SAIL received an order of 5,500 tonnes of steel and the second consignment would be dispatched to Nepal in first week of August, it said.
