Machli, believed to be the most photographed tigress in the wild, died today after being ill for more than a week at Ranthambore national park in Rajasthan.

The tigress, codenamed T-16, was 19 years old. Also referred to as the 'Queen of Ranthambore', it was the longest known surviving tigress in the wild.

"Her area of movement had become limited for the last several days. She was hardly eating anything and was under monitoring for about a week," said Director of Ranthambore national park YK Sahu, adding that a post-mortem would be conducted.
