Mushrath records second upset to enter semis

Hyderabad girl Mushrath Shaik knocked out eighth seeded Hrudaya Shah 6-0, 7-6(5) to enter the girls singles semifinals of the Icon group - Arun Wakankar memorial - ATF Asian Under 14 Series Tennis Tournament here today.

Mushrath recorded her second upset win in a row having accounted for her elder sister and third seed Mubashira yesterday.

Top seed Riya Uboveja of Maharashtra ended the run of local girl Bela Tamhankar 6-2 6-1 while another state player Gargi Pawar put an end to wildcard Adithi Are's aspirations winning 6-3 6-3.

Sixth seeded Malikaa Marathe faced heavy weather before edging out Smriti Bhasin 6-1 5-7 7-6(2) to complete the girls semi lineup.
 

In the boys quarterfinals, Amrutjay Mohanty overcame Kanishk Pal 6-4, 6-3, fourth seeded Rudra Kapoor ended the challenge of Nishant Dabas 6-2, 6-3 and third seeded Aaryan Zaveri outplayed Rajeshkannan Subramani 6-2, 6-1.

In an all-Maharashtra contest, qualifier Aditya Balsekar survived a match point to edge past local boy Sarvesh Biramane 5-7 7-6(4) 6-0 in the longest match of the day.
