Naga teachers' conf stresses on need for quality education

The Nagaland government school teachers' conference today stressed on the need for quality education instead of being complacent with the high percentage of literacy rate in the state.
The two-day conference is the first of its kind in the state, which is being organised jointly by the State Council of Educational Research and Training (SCERT), School Education Department, Nagaland Board of School Education (NBSE), RMSA and SSA here with over 1,000 government teachers attending the programme.
Inaugurating the conference, Parliamentary Secretary for School Education, Yitachu said having high literary rate (over 80 per cent) is not enough but should be accompanied with quality education.

He said with enforcement of the "No detention policy" under the Right to Education Act-2009, teachers have a big responsibility for human resource development.
The legislative intent of the RTE Act was for good but if teachers start neglecting their responsibilities of teaching, the very purpose of the Act would be defeated, Yitachu said encouraging teachers not to neglect their duty.
He said teaching has become one of the most complicated jobs with the demand of broad based knowledge of the subject, having caring attitude and objective of bringing change in the students.
Delivering the keynote address, SCERT director Vipralhou Kesiezie said through the conference, the government hoped to bring out a set of standards for teachers' professionalism.
