Senior ruling National Conference (NC) leader Sheikh Mustafa Kamal today said his party's stand for restoration of autonomy is the only viable solution to the state's political problems.
"Restoration of autonomy is the only solution to the political problems of Jammu and Kashmir," said Kamal adding that his father and NC founder Sheikh Mohammad Abdullah had strived for an Independent Kashmir in 1947.
NC's additional general secretary and uncle of Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, Mustafa Kamal claimed his father accepted the "conditional" instrument of accession signed by then Maharaja of the state, Hari Singh, in the wake of raids by Pakistani tribals in Jammu and Kashmir in October 1947.

Some power hungry politicians in the state have left no stones unturned to erode the special character of the state, he said.
Without naming Syed Ali Shah Geelani, the National Conference leader hit out at the separatist leader adding, "Those who raise the slogans of freedom today, participated in elections at the behest of (intelligence) agencies".
