NDFB(S) Central Committee member held

A hardcore NDFB(Songbijit) Central Committee member and its assistant financial secretary was apprehended by a joint Army and Assam Police team in Chirang district of Assam today, a defence spokesman said.

Based on specific inputs from military intelligence, the joint team launched an operation and apprehended the militant identified as Swamla Basumatary alias Sohitab, 30, allegedly involved in the Adivasi massacre in December last year, the spokesman said.

He was moving in the Bedai group of the outfit since December 2014.

A pistol and some ammunition were recovered from Swamla, who had been trained in Myanmar in 2010, the spokesman added.
