The three-day northeast film festival, 'Fragrance of Northeast', concluded here today with the screening of the Pradip Kurbah film, 'RI'.

The final screening of the festival was preceded by a cultural programme that saw performances by classical pianist Nise Meruno and the Naga folk-based choir by the 'Nagaland Singing Ambassadors'.

Speaking on the occasion, Information and Broadcasting Ministry Secretary Bimal Julka hailed the important role played by northeastern cinema in cultural integration.

NE films have reached a stage where professional and technological expertise in the industry is being appreciated on the global stage, he said.

He invited suggestions from the people as to the approach, methodology and philosophy for preparing the future roadmap for convening such festivals.

Appreciating the efforts and initiative of the ministry, Meghalaya Governor KK Paul said the festival had brought the diverse culture of the northeast to the centre-stage.

Paul said that the perceived gaps between cultures could be filled with appropriate and positive messaging through radio, TV and films.

Earlier, Paul and Julka visited the handicrafts stalls and painting exhibition at the festival.
