A person, suspected to be linked with the Nationalist Socialist Council of Nagaland (NSCN), was apprehended here today when he attempted to flee with the pistol of a police officer prompting the cop to fire at him in a bid to stop.
On information received by Guwahati City Police about an arms deal being made near Bamunimaidam area, a team headed by a police officer immediately went there and found two vehicles parked with three persons sitting inside, City Senior Superintendent of Police A P Tiwari said.
When police tried to intervene and check them, one of them tried to snatch the police officer's weapon with the intention to escape, Tiwari said.

The officer fired at the person's leg to prevent him from fleeing and seized a pistol from him, the SSP said.
The person linked with the NSCN was identified as Samuel Boro of Hijuguri of Tinsukia district. He resides in both Nagaland's Dimapur and sometimes in Bamunimaidam in a rented premises.
Stating the person was admitted to a hospital for treatment, the SSP said investigations were on.
