The NSUI workers led by its general secretary Amrita Dhawan clashed with the police while heading to gherao the Governor's residence against the Kanker rape case involving tribal girls.
"Around 15 policemen were injured in the action. A total of 48 NSUI workers including its general secretary Amrita Dhawan have been arrested," Additional Superintendent of Police (ASP) Lal Umed Singh told PTI.
Trouble began when the NSUI rally reached near Moti Bagh where police had barricaded the area. NSUI workers started pelting stones on cops after which the policemen resorted to lathicharge.
Condemning the police action, Congress leaders said everybody have rights to express their opinions in a democratic country.
