Observers appointed for bypoll to 2 assembly seats in Punjab

The Election Commission of India (ECI) today appointed two general and expenditure observers each for Talwandi Sabo and Patiala assembly seats where bypoll will be held on August 21.

Punjab Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) V K Singh said that for Talwandi Sabo assembly segment Manish Thapliyal has been appointed as expenditure observer and Sunil Chaudhary as general observer, while P S Bhalla and S A Patel have been appointed expenditure and general observer respectively for the Patiala constituency.

At present, as many as 15 contestants including former union Minister Preneet Kaur, former MLAs Harminder Jassi and Jeet Mohinder Singh Sidhu are in the fray for the two seats.
 

The last date for withdrawal of candidature is tomorrow.

The bypoll was necessitated after sitting MLA from Patiala (urban) Amarinder Singh got elected to Lok Sabha from Amritsar and sitting Congress MLA from Talwandi Sabo Sidhu deserted the party to join the ruling SAD.
