Odisha exploring possibility of 'sister-state relationship'

Odisha government was exploring the possibility of a 'sister-state relationship' with Brazil, an official said today.

The issue was discussed in a high level meeting between chief secretary AP Padhi and Indian Ambassador to Brazil, Ashok Kumar Das here, the official said.

The potential and opportunities in Brazil were presented by Das.

There could be a lot of cultural, economic, technological and intellectual inter-exchange between Odisha and Brazil, Das said.

The possible areas of collaboration can be yoga, ayurveda, Buddhist circuit connect, handloom, eco-tourism, medical-tourism, agri-business, gems and jewellery and heritage-tourism.

Das said Indian generic medicines are in great demand in Brazil.

As part of the collaboration, Odisha may invite Brazilian investors in sectors like infrastructure, chemicals and agri-business.

 

Both Odisha and Brazil can also participate in each others international trade fairs and investment meets. Both can benefit in the mutual promotion of startups, ethnic cultural exchanges and sports, the official said.

During the discussion, Das praised Odishas efforts of making Bhubaneswar, a sports capital.

Industries department secretary Sanjeev Chopra has been nominated as the nodal officer of the Government of Odisha to carry forward the dialogue for future collaborations between Odisha and Brazil.
