In a bid to upgrade the Capital Hospital here to a Post Graduate Medical Institute, Odisha government today began processing for the proposed project, officials said.
The issue was discussed at a high level meeting presided over by Chief Secretary G C Pati here. Pati asked the secretary of works department to take up field survey in the existing Capital Hospital and prepare a master plan for the purpose at the earliest.
According to the Medical Council of India guidelines, around 25 acres of land are required for the PG institute for admission of 50 students in the first phase.
Other infrastructural requirements include academic building of 18,800 sq mt, administrative building and 200 seated hostel.
Asked about the project cost, health and family welfare secretary Arati Ahuja said, "The upgradation project will be financed by the state government and the amount of funds required for the purpose will depend on the approved architectural plan.
