The Odisha government today decided to open two more regional directorates of higher education department at Jeypore and Balasore, official sources said.

The decision in this regard was taken at a meeting chaired by Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik here.

While the regional directorate at Jaypore will look after colleges in Koraput, Nabarangpur, Malkangiri, Rayagada, Kalahandi and Nuapada districts, the Balasore regional directorate will look after colleges located in Bhadrak, Mayurbhanj and Keonjhar districts.

Three regional directorates are functioning from Bhubaneswar, Berhampur and Sambalpur at present.

These directorates look after publications of new course curriculum and also fix the remuneration of teachers as well as the non-teaching staff.

The decision to set up two more directorates was taken since the task of the education directorates had escalated in view of rise in enrolments in government and private colleges across the state, an official of the higher education department said.
