Organs of a 51-year-old man, who was declared brain dead following head injuries in an accident, were harvested at a private hospital here after getting consent of relatives,giving new lease of life to five patients, a top hospital official today said.
B Selvakumar, a goldsmith from Erode, fell down from his two-wheeler and sustained head injuries on June three and was brought to K G Hospital, its Chairman, G Bhaktvatchalam said in a release today.
The patient was declared brain dead after scans revealed significant dysfunction of the brain stem on important areas of the brain that control the heart and respiration, early today, he said.

Organ harvesting was performed this noon by experts and accordingly one kidney each was given to K G Hospital and PSG Hospital here, Liver to Appollo Hospital and two eyes to KG Hospital, Bhaktvatchalam said.
The victim is survived by wife and son, who is studyng plus two, he said.
