Pan-India auction of tea held

Of the total 80,329 kgs of speciality tea - both leaf and dust - offered at a pan-India auction, 54,185 kilograms sold, with a combined average price realisation of Rs 151.39 per kg.

As part of the 10th Edition of 'The Golden Leaf India Award-Southern Tea Competition (TGLIA-STC)', which is underway, the auction was held in nearby Coonoor, 157 lots of leaf teas and 82 lots of dust tea with a volume of 48,152 kgs and 32,177 kgs respectively, C Sreedharan, Convenor, TGLIA, said in a release today.

With good participation of buyers registered with Tea Board, of the 157 lots of leaf, 113 lots were sold comprising 31,273 kgs, with average price realisation of Rs 161.86 per kg, he said.
 

In the dust category, of the 82 lots, 63 comprising 22,917 kgs were sold, with a price realisation of Rs 137.11 per kg, thus the combined average price realisation standing at Rs 151.39 per kg, Sreedharan said.

The competition was a joint initiative of United Planters Association of Southern India and Tea Board, and the auction was to consolidate the brand of South Indian teas and to bring in a commercial elements, he added.
