Moderate Hurriyat Conference today said that the suggestion of PDP general secretary Nizamuddin Bhat to a group of women seeking help from the government to seek help from Mirwaiz Umar Farooq was a frank admission of the failure of the PDP-BJP dispensation in providing basic aid and assistance to Jammu and Kashmir people in distress.
"PDP general secretary Nizamudin Bhat's statement wherein he told a group of relief seeking women to ask help from Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, is a frank admission of the failure of government to provide even basic aid and assistance to the problem ridden people of Jammu and Kashmir," a spokesman of Awami Action Committee headed by the Mirwaiz said.
He said the Mirwaiz family has all along provided guidance and support to the people of the valley in all fields -- social, educational, religious and even economic spheres -- and the people of the valley have tremendous regard and respect for them.

"When the devastating flood struck Kashmir last year and government completely disappeared from the scene, Mirwaiz as chief cleric of Kashmir and head of Dar-ul-Khair took it upon himself to provide relief and rehabilitation to the flood stricken people of Kashmir," he said.
Mirwaiz has even undertaken construction of houses for the most needy. The rehabilitation work by Dar-ul-Khair Mirwaiz Manzil still continue for the flood victims, he added.
Denouncing the government for completely failing to address the problems of flood victims, the spokesman said the government's tall claims in this regard have fallen flat.
Bhat sparked a controversy after he told a group of women in distress to seek help from Mirwaiz.
"Mirwaiz will be better... He will help you. Get some help first so that you can move around. Here the people have lost compassion," Bhat had told a group of women on Saturday last.
The women, who hail from Pakistan-occupied Kashmir, were married to local Kashmiri youth who had crossed the Line of Control for arms training but returned to the valley after state government announced an amnesty scheme for them.
