Two days after a PWD engineer was found murdered near her residence here, police today arrested a jilted "lover" who allegedly strangulated her after she turned down his marriage proposal.

Superintendent of Police of Chamoli district Sunil Kumar Meena said here that the culprit, identified as Nitin, was arrested from Saharanpur in Uttar Pradesh yesterday and was sent to jail after being produced in a local court.

Nitin who claims to have been in love with the engineer, had come to propose to her on January 2 but strangulated her after she turned down his marriage proposal, Meena said.

The 22-year-old junior engineer was found murdered on January 3 in a tin shed near her residence where she lived along with her mother.
