Police has arrested a youth in Muzaffarnagar district in connection with murder of 73-year-old man in Delhi's Defence Colony and have recovered the victim's laptop and a 5 kg silver brick from him.
Victim R C Chaukhani, a resident of Defence Colony was found murdered in his basement office by his daughter Kanu Priya on September 14.
Police received a specific input about the accused Rahul Kumar yesterday A raid was conducted at Phullar village in MuzaffarNagar district and he was arrested by the police team, said Ishwar Singh, DCP(south east).
The laptop of Chaukhani and a silver brick weighing around 5 kg (worth around 2.5 lakh) was recovered from possession, he said.
The accused was identified by police after an extensive screening of about 150 CCTV cameras covering the locality of the victim, several Metro stations and other areas.
Two suspects were identified in the footage near the house of the victim, who had entered the house at around 02.08 PM and they remained in the house for around half an hour.
Police found through the CCTV footage that both the suspects had reached the house of victim from MuzaffarNagar, via Shahdra, Kashmere Gate, Central Secretariat and Lajpat Nagar by using different mode of transport.
During interrogation, Rahul confessed murdering Chaukhani along with his associate Nikhil.
He further disclosed that he worked as an office boy of Chaukhani but left the job four months ago. He knew that his employer was a very rich man and conspired to rob him alongwith Nikhil.
The accused was aware that CCTV camera is installed in the office of deceased, and removed its DVR to avoid being caught by police. Efforts are on to arrest the co-accused and recover remaining robbed valuables, he added.
