Police have named the two civilians killed in a Colorado shooting at a family planning clinic that also left a police officer dead.

They were named as Jennifer Markovsky, who had turned 36 less than a week before Friday's armed assault, and Ke'Arre Marcell Stewart, who was 29.

Colorado Springs Police yesterday gave no more details about the two victims.

The third victim was previously identified as Garrett Swasey, 44, a campus officer at the University of Colorado at Colorado Springs who had raced to the scene of the shooting.

The suspected shooter, Robert Lewis Dear, 57, entered the Planned Parenthood clinic with a high-powered rifle and fired on police and civilians.

The clinic said he may have been motivated by opposition to abortion, a highly emotive and divisive issue in America.

Planned Parenthood performs abortions, among other services.
