Press Trust of India Jodhpur
Anti Corruption Bureau (ACB) today arrested a Sub Inspector (SI) of Rajasthan Police and his wife for allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs 70,000.

ACB officials said the woman was arrested while she was allegedly receiving the bribe money from the complainant at her home in Jodhpur, while the SI Parvat Singh was arrested from Bilara where he is posted.

According to ACB Inspector Anil Sharma, initially Parvat Singh had demanded Rs 1 lakh for expediting the proceedings to release 40 kg silver belonging to the complainant, which was siezed by the SI on September 20.

Later, he scaled it down to Rs 70,000 on constant pleadings of the complainant, Sharma said.

"As per the direction of the SI, the complainant had gone to his residence here to hand over the money (Rs 70,000) to his wife Paras Kanwar this afternoon," the ACB officer said.

"The moment she received the amount, we arrested her," said Sharma.

The SI had seized the silver from one person during picketing. It belonged to the complainant Om Prakash Soni, who met Singh at Bilara police station with the documents regarding the seized it.

Soni told Singh that he had sent this silver to Beawar for making ornaments but the maker was not there and so his man was coming back to Jodhpur with the silver, when caught, according to ACB the official.

"Soni requested Singh to arrange to release the seized silver expeditiously. Singh asked Soni to meet him at his residence in Jodhpur, where he demanded Rs 1 lakh," Sharma said, adding "This communication was recorded by Soni, which along with our verification of the complaint, turned out to be quite incriminating.
