Police official suspended for losing his service weapon

Telangana Director General of Police Anurag Sharma today suspended a police sub-inspector in Nalgonda district for "losing" his service weapon while he was on a pilgrimage to Karnataka two days ago.

According to a release issued here, police sub-inspector Shankar Reddy attached to the Penpahad police station in Suryapet sub-division of Nalgonda district was suspended for alleged negligence in connection with the incident.

As per the release, Telangana Additional DGP (Law and Order) Sudeep Laktakia said that the sub-inspector had come to Hyderabad for Ganesh immersion procession duty and later gone to visit a temple near Yadgiri in Karnataka two days ago where he had reportedly lost his service weapon.
 

"The gun was traced by the Karnataka police which informed the Telangana police and the weapon was recovered," the Additional DGP said in the release.

The police sub-inspector was suspended on charge of negligence and dereliction of duty, the top cop said adding that disciplinary proceedings will be initiated against him and stringent action will be taken, the release said.
