The police today recovered machetes and other sharp weapons from the office of Tripura Motor Shramik Union (TMSU), a CPI(M) affiliated trade union, at Battala area here, a police officer said.

Acting on a tip-off, the police personnel raided the TMSU office and recovered the weapons, Superintendent of Police (SP) of West Tripura Abhijit Saptarshi told reporters.

"We would take proper action, if we receive more complaints like this," the SP said.

Tripura BJP spokesperson Ashok Sinha said that the incident reminded him about the recovery of weapons from CPI(M) party offices in West Bengal after the Left Front was thrown out of power in 2011.

CPI(M) state secretary Bijan Dhar, however, denied the allegations of piling weapons inside the TMSU office.

"These are old tactics of maligning the Communist Party. We have been attacked by similar tactics earlier. These will not work," he said.
