Poll candidate arrested for murder of village head

A Panchayat polls candidate has been arrested in connection with murder of a newly elected head of Kheri Taloda village in this district.

The candidate, identified as Satbir Singh, who lost the election was arrested today as his son Vijay allegedly shot dead the newly-elected village head 45-year-old Rakesh, a police officer said.

Rakesh was elected head (Sarpanch) of the village in the January 10 Panchayat polls and was murdered two days later over political rivalry, he said.

On the basis of a complaint filed by Rakesh's brother Balkishan, the candidate Satbir, his son Vijay, Ramniwas and Jagjivan had been booked for the murder, the Officer said.
 

Satbir was today presented in a court which sent him on police remand for five days, he said.

Efforts are on to nab the other accused including Vijay, the Officer added.

Meanwhile, a village head candidate from Kheri village, Sandeep has sought security in the wake of such incidents.
