Prasar Bharati CEO Jawhar Sircar, whose term ends in February next, today said he is considering quitting and that he has thought "very strongly" about this option.

"I have thought of this option very strongly and have often said so....I am tired and would like to go. I often have said so. However, I cannot run away until the final phase of transparency is assured. Prasar Bharati's future has to be ensured," Sircar told PTI.

Sircar said this when asked if he was contemplating resigning from the position of CEO of Prasar Bharati which runs Doordarshan as well as All India Radio (AIR) amid speculation in this regard.

The Prasar Bharati CEO, however, emphasised that he had some important tasks related to making the processes transparent on his mind before he actually puts in his papers.

Sircar is learnt to have conveyed his thoughts about quitting before February, when his term ends, to the Information and Broadcasting ministry as well.

A senior I and B Ministry official when contacted said that Sircar had expressed a desire to quit. There has also been some speculation that former I&B secretary Sunil Arora may succeed Sircar as the next CEO.

Arora was recently appointed as an advisor in Prasar Bharati.

Sircar, who had retired as Secretary Culture in the Union Government, was appointed as Prasar Bharati CEO in 2012 and his term is due to end in February next year, officials said.
