Preventive steps to be initiated to evade accidents: Minister

"The transport department officials should initiate measures to prevent accidents and the state government will provide the required assistance on the issue," Minister for Transport Qamar Ali Akhoon said in a high-level meeting at Civil Secretariat here.

He asked for a focused attention in the hilly areas, which are more accident prone.

Transport officials should ensure proper implementation of Motor Vehicle Act as it would helping in bringing down the number of road mishaps, he said.

Akhoon called upon officers to conduct periodical reassessment of drivers and chalk out strategies to upgrade their driving skills, besides regular mechanical check up of the vehicles.
