Professor arrested for objectionable Facebook post on Ambedkar

A professor, who was arrested here recently for an alleged objectionable Facebook post on B R Ambedkar on his 125th birth anniversary, was granted bail today.

Chamoli District Judge Alok Kumar Verma granted bail to Professor Bhagwati Purohit after hearing the arguments of the police and the defence counsel.

Purohit was arrested from Nainital on April 20 and sent to judicial custody.

Purohit is an assistant professor of Political Science at Government Post Graduate College, Gopeshwar.

An FIR was lodged against him at Gopeshwar police station under various sections of the IT Act, IPC and SC/ST Act.
