Twenty activists of Thanthai Periyar Dravida Kazhakam were today taken into custody while attempting to stage picketing in front of the Kerala Forest department office in Pollachi in the district, following reports of alleged lathicharge on a Tamil Nadu PWD official and some labourers in Parambikulam in Kerala.
Police said as per reports reaching rural police a PWD officer and about 50 labourers were reportedly prevented entry to the Parambikulam Project area this morning and when they protested, officials, led by District Forest Officer, allegedly resorted to lathicharge, resulting in injuries to four women.
Protesting the incident, TPDK activists, led by district secretary, R Manoharan squatted in front of a Kerala Government bus in Pollachi and also attempted to picket the Kerala Forest department office there.
However, all of them were taken into custody, police said.
