Banking services were affected in Tamil Nadu and neighbouring Puducherry while public sector bank ATMs are likely to go dry as employees began a two-day strike today to press for a wage revision.
The United Forum of Bank Unions (UFBU), an umbrella organisation of nine bank employees and officers unions representing about eight lakh employees, decided to go on strike after the recent talks between the Labour Ministry and the Unions held in New Delhi failed.
According to UFBU official, Tamil Nadu and Puducherry has 11,300 branches of both public and private sector banks and nearly 7,500 ATMs.
"Since it was a weekly holiday yesterday being a Sunday, ATMs are also likely to go dry due to the strike...," the official said.
