Chief Minister N Rangasamy today said the police force would be strengthened by recruitments to the Home Guard and India Reserve Battalion (IRB), an auxiliary police force maintained by the government.

An action plan had been drawn up to fill as many as 450 vacant posts in the rank of Home Guards and recruit 200 personnel for IRB, he said handing over certificates to each of 589 newly recruited police personnel at the passing out parade here.

Stating that preventing crimes would not be difficult as Puducherry was geographically a small pocket, he asked police personnel to function as 'friends of the people'.

Women police would also be recruited as there was every need to offer opportunities for women police to demonstrate their capability.
