Punjab beat Uttarakhand 3-1 in volleyball nationals

Punjab defeated Uttarakhand 3-1 in a men's quarterfinal play-off match of the 67th Senior National Volleyball Championship at the Nehru indoor stadium here Sunday.

In a women's quarterfinal play-off fixture, Haryana blanked Uttar Pradesh 3-0.

In the Punjab-Uttarkhand match, the former lost the opening set 25-20 before bouncing back to take the next three. The fourth game was a close one before Punjab pulled away to take the last four points and secure a victory.

Punjab had finished last in Group 'B' in the preliminary stage and took on Uttarakhand for a spot in the quarterfinals through the play-offs.

Meanwhile, Haryana didn't encounter much trouble from Uttar Pradesh, closing out the match in straight sets for a 25-17, 25-14, 25-14 win.

 

Results: Women: Haryana beat Uttar Pradesh 3-0 (25-17, 25-14, 25-14).

Men: Punjab beat Uttarakhand 3-1 (20-25, 25-16, 25-16, 25-21).
