Punjab to constitute advisory board of disability

Punjab government has decided to constitute an advisory board for persons with disabilities with immediate effect, an official said today.

Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal gave the nod to set up the board in a bid to ensure strict implementation of Rights of Persons with Disability Act, 2016.

A spokesperson of the Chief Minister's Office said the board would be headed by the minister in-charge of the department dealing with disability matters, as Chairperson, ex officio and the Minister of State or the Deputy Minister in charge of the Department in the State Government dealing with disability matters, would be its Vice-Chairperson, ex officio.
 

In another initiative, the state government has also decided to set up a University of Rehabilitation Sciences and Research on Disabilities on 25-acre land in Medicity, New Chandigarh (Mulanpur).

With the setting up of the university, Punjab would become the second state in the country to have such university after Kerala.

The upcoming university would look into all aspects related to psychological, intellectual and physical disabilities.
