Several parts of the country received rains which led to marked dip in temperatures, giving much needed respite to people from scorching heat, even as inclement weather conditions briefly affected flight operations in Delhi and Uttar Pradesh's Gorakhpur today.
The national capital witnessed overcast skies almost throughout the day, followed by strong winds in the evening which kept the mercury in check, even as overnight rains led to increase in humidity levels.
Sources at the Indira Gandhi International (IGI) Airport here said six flights were diverted because of inclement weather in the evening.
According to the Safdarjung observatory, the recording of which is considered the official figure, Delhi received 3.4 mm of rains till 8.30 am, while areas under Palam, Lodhi Road and Ridge observatories recorded 0.6 mm, 7.7 mm and 2 mm rains respectively.
The maximum temperature settled at 37.5 degrees Celsius, normal for this time of the year, while the minimum temperature was recorded at 26.2 degrees Celsius, two notches below the average.

The maximum temperature recorded in the city of temples settled at 33.6 degrees Celsius, 4.1 notches below normal during this part of the season.
The minimum temperature, however, continued to stay slightly above normal at 27.1 degrees Celsius against the previous night's 28.8 degrees Celsius.
Most parts of Himachal Pradesh received heavy rains as the monsoon arrived in the hill state in time. The usual date of arrival of the Monsoon in the state is June 25, and a week earlier or later is considered its normal arrival time, the director of the Meteorological Centre in Shimla, Manmohan Singh said.
State capital Shimla received 36.4 mm rains, followed by 52 mm in Sujanpur Tira and 55 mm in Palampur of Kangra district. The MeT department said Monsoon would remain active in the state till the last week of September.
In Uttar Pradesh's Gorakhpur, rain from late last night till this morning affected normal life with massive water logging across the city. The Mahayogi Guru Gorakhnath airport has been closed and both flights to Delhi were cancelled.
The weather department has forecast likelihood of heavy to very heavy rains in nine districts -- Shravasti, Bahraich, Kheri, Pilibhit, Bareilly, Shahjahanpur, Rampur, Moradabad and Bijnor -- of the state tomorrow.
The IMD said heavy to very heavy rainfall occurred at isolated places over West Madhya Pradesh and heavy rainfall occurred at isolated places over Chhattisgarh, while thunderstorm was observed at isolated places over Vidarbha, Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh.
The southwest monsoon has entered Rajasthan and heavy rainfall occurred at isolated places in Udaipur, Bikaner and Jaipur divisions in last 24 hours, a MeT official said.
In Dungarpur district, Kanva and Nithuwa recorded 23 and 15 cm rainfall. Pratapgarh and Banswara recorded 12 and 11 cm rainfall respectively in last 24 hours.
Barmer was recorded the hottest with 38.4 degree Celsius followed by 38 in Jaisalmer. The MeT department has predicted heavy rainfall at isolated places in the state tomorrow.
Maximum temperature was markedly fell over West Madhya Pradesh and appreciably fell over East Madhya Pradesh, Vidarbha and Chhattisgarh, whereas no large change in minimum temperature over Chhattisgarh, Vidarbha and Madhya Pradesh, the IMD said.
Pre-monsoon thunderstorm activity is very likely to continue over remaining parts of northwest India during next 24hours, the IMD has said.
