Congress today staged demonstrations across Rajasthan to protest against yesterday's lathicharge on Youth Congress members and the hike in power tariff.

PCC President Sachin Pilot, who led the protest outside the collectorate here, condemned the lathicharge in which he himself along with MLA Ashok Chandna suffered injuries.

At least 40 persons, Pilot and 10 policemen, were injured yesterday when police tried to stop party workers who attempted to 'gherao' the Assembly to protest against Centre's ordinance on Land Acquisition Act.

"Police used force on our members who were peacefully protesting yesterday. What is more unfortunate is that when our MLAs raised this issue in the Assembly, they were not allowed and were suspended from the House," he told reporters.

"The Assembly is not a property of BJP. It is unfortunate that our MLAs' voice was not heard. The government brought a proposal and suspended our eight MLAs. The marshals were called and MLAs were pushed out. We condemn the act," he said.

Eight Congress and one Independent MLAs were suspended for the remaining period of the on-going session by the Speaker after they disobeyed him.

The MLAs were suspended after a proposal moved by government chief whip was passed by the House yesterday.

Pilot said that the party's agitation against the tariff hike will continue until its withdrawal.
