The Rajasthan government has asked all secondary and senior secondary schools to purchase a collection of essays and speeches by RSS ideologue Deendayal Upadhyaya, a move which may draw accusations of saffronisation of education.

"Secondary and senior secondary schools have been asked to purchase the books for their libraries. The scale of purchase will depend on the availability of funds with the schools," the Deputy Director (Social Education) at the Directorate of Secondary Education in Bikaner, Prakash Chand Jatoliya, said today.

The schools were directed last year, during Updahyaya's birth centenary, to purchase the collection of essays and speeches by him from Delhi-based Prabhat publication, he said.

In a circular, issued last month, the directorate informed the schools that the collection can be bought from the publisher for Rs 4,000.

There are over 13,000 secondary and senior secondary schools in the state, Jatolia said.
