Refused money for booze, man kills wife

Enraged over his wife's refusal to give him money for booze on new year's eve, a 55-year old drunk man allegedly hacked her to death and surrendered before the police at a village in the district today.

Kaliyappan, a drunkard, of Visuvasapuram near Bodi had come home last night after drinking liquor to celebrate new year. He asked his 49-year old wife Vadivukarasi for money to get more liquor, police said.

However, she refused to give him money following which he hacked her to death with a sharp-edged weapon and left the house.

This morning, he went to Periyakulam police station and surrendered. Police went to the village and seized the body from the house.
 

Kaliappan was arrested and produced before a local court, which remanded him to judicial custody.
