The Delhi Medical Council today cancelled the registration of a city-based doctor after it was found that sex determination tests were allegedly being conducted at his nursing home in Haryana.

The decision comes in the wake of a lower court in Haryana cancelling the registration of the nursing home owned by Krishan Gopal Garg in Palwal district of Haryana.

The nursing home was allegedly found using prenatal diagnostic techniques for sex determination, flouting the PNDT Act of 1994.

"We have cancelled the registration of the nursing home for five years. A circular to all other state medical councils of the country will also be issued, so that the owner is not allowed to practice during the period," Girish Tyagi, Registrar of Delhi Medical Council, said.

The Pre-Natal Diagnostic Techniques (Regulation and Prevention of Misuse) Act is aimed at preventing the misuse of prenatal diagnostic technique for sex selective abortions.
