Later, in a statement issued in Lucknow quoting his resignation letter to CM, Azam said that it was not only ignorance and indifference of Railways that could be blamed for the unfortunate and tragic incident. He said that there was a huge distance between Mela premises and station, adding that he was technically not authorised for arrangements at railway station.
