Zinc prices moved up by 1.29 per cent to Rs 168.70 per kg in futures market today as speculators expanded their bets following upsurge in demand from consuming industries at the spot markets amid a firm trend overseas.
At the Multi Commodity Exchange, zinc for delivery in December month rose Rs 2.15, or 1.29 per cent to Rs 168.70 per kg in business turnover of 357 lots.
On similar lines, the metal for delivery in November contracts went up by Rs 2.05, or 1.24 per cent to Rs 167.95 per kg in 1,860 lots.
Market analysts attributed the rise in zinc futures to widening of position by participants, driven by rising demand from consuming industries at the domestic spot market and a firm trend overseas.
