Shriomani Akali Dal (Badal) District President and Chairman of state-owned Punjab Energy Development Agency Upkar Singh Sandhu today announced his resignation from all posts.
"I was shocked and pained at the series of incidents of sacrilege of holy book in the various parts of Punjab," Sandhu said.
He was also peeved at the killing of two Sikhs in police firing during protest at Faridkot, Sandhu said.

Sandhu further said another reason of his resignation was the "controversial" edicts issued from Akal Takht and later suspension of Panj Pyaras.
He said in light of present "painful" circumstances, he quits all the posts with immediate effect and copies of resignation was forwarded to the authorities concerned including Deputy Chief Minister Punjab Sukhbir Singh Badal.
