Several injured in police lathicharge

Several people were injured in a police lathicharge to disperse a group of agitators protestingagainst the survey works for widening of NH66 at A R Nagar in the district today.

Clashes broke out after the agitators under the banner "Janakeeya Samara Samithi" allegedly pelted stones on the police personnel deployed to protect the revenue officials who arrived for survey works for acquiring of land, police said.

The agitators alleged that police entered the houses some persons and beat up women and children.

Vehicular traffic was affected on Thrissur-Kozhikode route for some hours in the morning due to the protests.

Survey process in the A R Nagar panchayat has been temporarily stopped in the backdrop of the protests.
