Six arrested in theft of memory card consignment from IGI

Five persons have been arrested for allegedly stealing a consignment of 8,000 memory cards from the cargo terminal of the IGI airport here, police said today.

The accused, identified as Sandeep, Shalinder Singh, Yashpal Saini, Sunil Sehrawat and Uttam Chauhan, have been arrested yesterday and Rs 58 lakh in cash recovered from them, they said.

One Daulat Ram had filed a complaint on September 2 about his missing consignment of imported memory cards from the cargo terminal of airport here.

"During investigation, the CCTV footage was checked and it was found that one loader was shifting the consignment of memory cards of the complainant. This loader was traced and examined. He informed that he had shifted the theses boxes on the direction of two persons who were later identified as Sandeep and Shalinder," a police official said.
 

On further interrogation, Sandeep and Shalinder, said that they had sold the stolen memory cards through two persons, Sunil Sehrawat and Yashpal Saini, to a shop in Gaffar Market at Karol Bagh.

"A sum of 58.50 lakhs was also recovered from Sandeep and Shalinder," the official said.

After further investigations, Sunil and Yashpal were arrested and a raid was conducted at the Karol Bagh shop, he said, adding that 8000 memory cards were recovered and an employee of the shop, Uttam Chauhan was arrested.
