SMC polls: 131 file nominations

BJP nominees for the posts of Mayor and Deputy Mayor submitted their documents today, the last day of filing papers.

Fifty per cent wards -- 13 out of 25 -- have been reserved for women candidates.

The SMC is controlled by the Congress since its inception in 1986. The party has swept the five Municipal Corporation polls held so far.

For the first time, the Mayor and the Deputy Mayor will be elected directly by the people.
