To strengthen patrolling, the Southeast district police today inducted 24 new motorcycles which will be deployed in areas witnessing high footfall.

"The motorcycles will be used for group patrolling in the areas with heavy footfall like markets, melas, areas prone to street crime, areas having hostels and PGs for women," DCP (Southeast) Romil Baaniya said.

During the night time, these motorcycles will be used for patrolling in areas prone to motorcycle thefts and burglaries, he said.

"A group of three motorcycles each will be formed and equipped with flasher lights, sirens, wireless set, reflective jacket for both riders and small range weapons with sufficient rounds," said the officer.

With three patrol motorcycles, people will feel more confident and seeing sufficient police presence in the area will make them feel assured, he said, adding that the motorcycle patrolling will also help curb street crimes like chain snatching, mobile phone thefts, etc.

These motorcycles will also help in providing immediate reinforcements to local police in case of any attack or emergency, he said.
