Speeding trailer kills biker; villagers protest

A man was killed today when a speeding trailer hit him on the Bombay-Agra highway near here, following which villagers blocked the traffic protesting against frequent mishaps occurring on the highway, police said.

Nilesh Mahajan (27), who belonged to Asangaon, was killed by a speeding trailer (vehicle used to transport goods) this morning while he was going to a petrol pump on the highway in Sahapur taluka, Sahapur police station sub-inspector V V Bangre said.

Later, scores of villagers from a village in Sahapur blocked roads and protested against frequent accidents taking place on the highway and demanded a bypass on the highway, he said.
 

The driver of the vehicle fled from the spot and police is on the look out to nab the driver.

A case has been registered under relevant IPC sections, police said.
