Press Trust of India Mathura
Locals of Khayara village today staged a protest alleging that the police had resorted to high-handedness during raids to seize the 80 tractors, which were purchased on loan and later shown as stolen.
They staged the protest at the PWD guest house where Uttar Pradesh minister Laxmi Narain Chaudhary was staying.
The minister arrived here today from state capital Lucknow.
On March 29, police confiscated as many as 80 brand new tractors purchased from neighbouring states -- Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan and Haryana -- on loan, and later shown as stolen.
The villagers told Chaudhary that the police had confiscated their tractors though they had produced valid papers.
The minister asked the DM, Sarvagya Ram Mishra, and SSP Prabhakar Chaudhari to look into the matter.
SDM Rajendra Pensia; DSP, Chhatta, Chandradhar Gaur and other officials would verify the papers of the villagers, the minister said.
