As many as 37 students fell ill due to leakage of gas from air conditioners, in a private junior college in Karimnagar on Friday.
According to Karimnagar Revenue Divisional Officer, B Chandra Sekhar, girl students of the college noticed leakage of gas in their class room in the campus here today.
However, by the time they noticed it, they got burning sensations in their eyes and some of them lost consciousness due to suffocation, after which college authorities took students to nearby private hospitals.

Soon after getting the information, the Revenue Divisional Officer rushed to the college and made a preliminary enquiry.
He said that out of 37 students, 17 were discharged from hospitals after first aid, but three girls have been shifted to the Apollo Reach Hospital, where their condition is reported to be safe.
Karimnagar Deputy Superintendent of Police, P Ravinder said that reasons for the leakage of gas is yet to be known, adding that the case is being investigated.
Meanwhile, students unions staged a protest in front of the college demanding a probe into the incident.
