Sultry weather caused discomfort to residents in most parts of Punjab and Haryana today.
High humidity made a maximum of 35.5 degrees Celsius unbearable in the Union Territory of Chandigarh.
In Punjab, Amritsar recorded a high of 34.8 degrees Celsius. The mercury settled at 33.7 degrees Celsius in Ludhiana and at 36.2 degrees Celsius in Patiala.

Residents of Ambala in Haryana also reeled under the sticky heat at a high of 35.8 degrees Celsius. Hisar and Karnal recored the maximum temperature at 36.5 degrees Celsius and 34 degrees Celsius.
The southwest monsoon had entered some parts of Haryana yesterday.
Punjab and Haryana, the grain bowl states of the country, had received scanty monsoon rains during last two years.
