SVO raids govt hospitals in Jammu, lifts samples of drugs

State Vigilance Organisation (SVO) sleuths today conducted raids on several hospitals, including Government Medical College (GMC) hospital, and took samples of "spurious" drugs for testing in Jammu city.
Teams headed by the DSP held surprise checks at Central Store, GMC, Government Hospital Gandhi Nagar, Government Hospital Sarwal and Marh, an SVO officer said.
The samples of the drugs were lifted in the presence of experts from Drug and Food Control Organisation for examination and analysis to proceed further into the matter, he added.

The raids were held pursuant to inputs that Department of Health Services, Jammu had purchased drugs for "exorbitant" rates, some of which were "spurious", without adopting codal formalities and thereby, causing loss to the state exchequer, in connivance with the suppliers to "confer undue benefits upon them with an ulterior motive", the officer said.
A joint surprise check (JSC) was conducted by the SVO, he added.
