Congress today accused Gujarat government of insulting not only the former Chief Minister and Congress leader late Amarsinh Chaudhary but also the tribal population by tabling a Lokayukta report indicting him in a 30 year old case.
"Chaudhary was the first tribal Chief Minister in the country. He died nine years back. By placing the report of Lokayukta in 30 year old allegations in 2014, the Narendra Modi government has insulted not only him but the entire tribal community," state Congress chief Arjun Modhwadia said.
Senior party leader Shankarsinh Vaghela said: "BJP tried to lure Chaudhary's son Tushar (a union minister of state), but when he refused, they tabled an old report in Assembly. If they want to punish him (the late Congress leader) BJP can go up (to heaven) and ask for his reply."
The BJP government had not tabled reports of seven inquiry commissions in the house so far, Modhwadia alleged.
"BJP has not tabled report of Justice Shah commission appointed by them to inquire into allegations of corruption against Modi government. They have also not tabled the report of Justice D K Trivedi commission," Modhwadia said.
He also alleged that Modi government had given vast tracts of forest and Costal Regulation Zone (CRZ) land to industrialists at cheap rates.
Almost 30 years after the matter came to light and nine years after Chaudhary's death, the BJP government yesterday tabled the report in the Assembly.
The report by the then Lokayukta S M Soni indicts him for allowing illegal cutting of trees in the Surat district between April 1983 and May 1985 (when he was the forest minister) to appease voters.
Chaudhary passed away in August 2004.
