The racket was exposed with the arrest of one Vikki Mali, 25, from Kalwa in Thane district of Maharashtra on July 11, a senior officer said, adding that police recovered two fake permit books bearing stamps of district collectorate.

He said nine others who are also involved in the crime were arrested subsequently.

"Police seized total 156 fake sand mining permit receipt books valued at Rs 1.28 crore, a laptop, some mobile phones etc," he said.
